The 25th Annual Sherman Oaks Street Fair
Post-Event Press Release
Sherman Oaks, CA - On Sunday, October 18th, the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce hosted its 25th Annual Sherman Oaks Street Fair on Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks. The Street Fair is the largest event in the San Fernando Valley, with an estimated 100,000 attendees, 35 sponsors, and over 200 vendors, displays, and exhibits.
The Street Fair is a celebration of Southern California heritage, culture, and community. In addition to the great local vendors, the Fair included a food court, food trucks, and a cocktail garden. Main attractions included a Beepi Classic Car and Hot Rod Show, a Wells Fargo Carnival & Fun Zone, a Major Concert Stage, a Health Education Pavilion sponsored by the Sherman Oaks Hospital, and a Community Performing Arts Stage presented by Ford.
The concert stage featured four classic acts, including Lee Rocker of the Stray Cats. Catch-A-Wave recreated a 1963 Beach Boys concert and The Outta Sites captured the spirit of the Sunset Strip in the 60s complete with go-go dancers. SoCal country music star Tom Maclear opened the concert.
Southern California Ford Dealers sponsored our Community Stage where hundreds of local students had the opportunity to perform. Schools represented on this stage include North Hollywood High School, Dixie Canyon Elementary Singers, North Valley Military Institute Music Company, CHAMPS Charter High School, Millikan Middle School, Walter Reed Middle School, Harvard Westlake, Pacoima Singer, The Buckley School, and iLEAD/Cal STEAM.
Additionally, the Batmobile celebrated its 50th anniversary (it was completed and delivered to 25th Century Fox for the TV series in October of 1965) along with the 90th birthday of its creator, George Barris the King of Kustomizers. Other exhibits commemorated the 60th Anniversary of the passing of James Dean and the release of Rebel Without A Cause. The 60th anniversary of Broderick Crawford’s TV series, Highway Patrol, celebrated with a 1955 Buick Highway Patrol car from the Gary Goltz collection.
“We are both privileged and thrilled to host this amazing community event! It showcases the rich diversity of our community with over 150 local businesses, wonderful opportunities for hundreds of students to perform on stage, and gives the San Fernando Valley a day to enjoy great live music and create cherished memories for generations to come. I can’t think of another place to celebrate Southern California culture than right here in the heart of Sherman Oaks,” says Pedro Manrique, Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce President.
The 26th Annual Sherman Oaks Street Fair will be held on Sunday, October 16th, 2016.
